Not sure under what heading to put this but I want to complain about shipping charges. Ordered some valve covers on sale last week and was charged $28 shipping via UPS. Pulled up the UPS site and I checked to see what it would cost to send the same package back to the vendor. $9.80. I guess some (Not all) the vendors here have caught on to the ebay ploy of ridiculous shipping charges. Do with this info what you wish. I know for certain what I'm going to do from now on. Never again will I order anything without checking shipping charges. If it's ridiculous I won't do business with that vendor again. Sorry, just had to vent.

It usually goes in the feedback section. Since you really did not fill us in who you purchased the parts from, i guess we will have to wait:D

Well, it dosen't belong here so I'm moving it to the feedback section.

Not defending anybody but did you ever send out 30 packages at one time.Getting the carton the packing materials packaging up everything and then dropping everything off.Thats a $hit load of time. The shipping you talked about looks to be pretty excessive. The vendor should have said there was shipping and handling fees.Again not defending anyone. I now shipping fees suck but vendors need to get compensated for their time.I parted a couple of cars and will never do it again because of packaging.just my 2 cents

At my business we ship +/- 100-150 packages a day and take the actual UPS or FEDEX charge and mark it up 20% to cover boxes, labor, packing etc. Its not near enough but it helps.

Sounds like you got hosed... sorry.

The way i see it if there are to be any handling and packing charges by a vendor or anyone else selling anything it should be included in the asking price for the item .

That sucks. How large of an item was it? There may be some other factor. There may also be a mistake. You should mention it to them in a friendly way. If the don't respond properly, folks should know. I am a new GN owner and will likely be in a position to spend money with whatever vendor this is.
I have sold plenty on ebay and my mom does a lot of internet bussiness. The handling charges are to be an expected part of the shipping and handling equation (and are totally justifiable). Damn near $20 is crazy though (on any item UPS would ship for less than $10).

Sounds like an issue I had with 'Gbodyparts'! Hidden charges are pretty lame.

I didn't want to say who the vendor was as it might look like I'm signaling them out. I have owned a small buisnes for 34 years and still do. I don't do much shipping but I understand the cost of doing business. My business had $20,000+ just in phone bills last year for example. I know these vendors are good guys for the most part. AND READ THIS CAREFULLY! I'm not complaining about shipping costs, I'm complaining about EXCESSIVE shipping charges. A huge difference as far as I'm concerned. A set of aluminum valve covers cost me $28 shipping. Now, if that vendor sells ten sets, he's charging $280 shipping that day. Sounds excessive to me. I will give a shout out to Turbo Regal Custom parts for their recent "Free" (Free, the most powerful word in business) shipping promotion. Do that again Mark, I need more stuff. Hope I'm not offending too many vendors as I need their "stuff".

Don't worry about offending vendors. While I understand that us "TR" folks are a niche market, and vendors that supply us with goodies are a benefit to "our" community, that doesn't give them the right to screw people on shipping or customer service. I don't care who it offends. If it ain't right, it ain't right and people should be made aware.

The only way to correct bad business behavior call the vendor on this. If they don't respond, put the "vendor" in the spotlight and let them tap dance in the public forum.

Just my .02

Will be a while before I do that again. Actually lost money on a few orders during that deal. And btw, the post office just went up on rates again.

Agreed.

I've seen the same with a couple vendors.

The "scam" that gets my britches bunched is when you order a large item and a hand full of small and sometimes almost weightless items, but you get charged shipping and handling on each individual item seperately even tho they are shipped in the same big box at very little added cost to the vendor.

Now...it's understandable that the rate will accelerate at a level (slightly) that reflects any added weight, but....Mr. Kind and hard working Vendor...don't charge me $10 more shipping for that little part when it's only costing you $0.50...
I'll gladly pay you the half buck without any snivelling at all and will gladly support you for supporting me.

On the other hand, I like the way places like Jegs or Summitt go about it. I know they do much higher volumes than most of our vendors, so they are able to ship at lower fees, but... when they are not giving free shipping, they just charge a flat rate (I forget how much....$9-$10?) no matter what the item is or where in the US it is going unless you want to pay for expedited shipping.

That is excessive for valve covers in my opinion. When I shipped my Vigilante back from NM, it only cost me $24 thru UPS and that weighs more than a set of valve covers and it was packed in the Pricision box with the packing that they ship it with so it wasn't exactly light but not heavy.

Don't know if this is a vendor on here or not but i like the fact that he has all the little parts that some other vendors may not have. All i know is that i was charged $8.10 for 2 clips and when i got them in the mail they were both sent to me in an envelope with a .44 cent stamp. I think the handling charges on this are a little overkill considering it was as easy dropping a letter in the mailbox. Not to mention i ordered a part that was $50 less than anywhere else (listed quantity 10+) and was then told it was out of stock only to watch it relisted 1 week later at $50 more than original list price. Also doesn't leave feedback which is important when your a prompt paying customer. Just needed to vent.

If you dont mention the vendor name on here ,other Buick owner will get hose by them. So if you could tell us who it is so we can all stay away from them

You guys complain about that? Try paying what we pay to Canada! $5 USED part is $65 UPS! Thats why we only use US Post. My wife accepted that delivery but if I was home No Way No How I will accept UPS.

Just placed my first order since I started this thread. Item was $450. I checked with two vendors. Both are from the same general area. I would have checked with more vendors but the one I used charged $23 shipping. The other vendor......$43. For the weight, size and distance I felt $23 was fair. Just for fun I reversed the shipping thru UPS. The cost of actual shipping $17. I can see an extra $6, I have no problem with that. BTW, the valve covers I ordered were on sale, $20 off. Of course if I was going to charge 3 times the actual shipping, well, I guess I would run so called sales all the time.

I have burned MANY times with the UPS on-line rate calculator.

You can get a rate, then go to drop it off and the increase is sometimes double?
