Just put a new GT6162 BB turbo on... it feels like it doesn't really hit until 10psi and almost in second gear
(running 20psi)

my mods are:
60lb inj
TT chip (set up for 60lb inj and stock turbo)
3.5 maf w/translater
4" big mouth CAI
3" tigmasters DP no cat
SMC Alky
RJC plate and boost controller
Red Stripe converter (still 12" suppose to be 2800 stall)
walbro fuel pump with hotwire

may have forgot some but those are the ones that should count I guess

I guess I'm use to the stocker which I liked....I don't like waiting for the boost!

all sugestions welcome!!! bigger stall? intercooler? just the tune? chip?

thanks John

Use your chip to lean it out some down low and see if it helps.

I would think a BB 61 would spool like a stocker.

Check to make sure you got the exhaust sealed up good when you put it on to...Any header cracks or any exhaust leaks at all will slow spool...Did you use a gasket under the turbo?

I would agree, that thing should spool well. I would say you have some tuning to do. My old CPT66 BB spooled well with a stock converter.
Good luck

Bryan

If everything else is good: no exhaust leaks, and tune isn't fat down low

Then, I would say the converter is the culprit. Ball bearing or not, it will probably never spool like the stock turbo did, unless you have enough converter.

Do you know for sure you have a real D-5 gn converter or was it replaced? how was the spool before the turbo, were did you get the BB turbo

id start off first by getting the correct chip for that turbo..

First thing id do is be sure the wastegate puck is closing completely and sealing on the exhaust housing. Verify the geometry with the pipe unbolted.

You hit the nail on the head! Puck is not sealing.

John knows to check the puck.. We talked about it along time ago, when he was installing the Tigmasters DP... but who knows..

With that symptom its worth checking again

the converter is a 12" "red stripe"..... stalls around 2400-2500......
I had a puck issue with my stock DP....bought a 3"tigmasters pipe...it sealed when I was running a t63e turbo..... wouldn't you think it would seal with a smaller turbo???

I put the chip I was running with the t63e in yesterday...it spooled alot quicker....I still want it to hit harder....

let me remind you I've had the stocker back on it for a while....so maybe what I want is unobtainable???

put it this way.... I had a mustang GT pull a full car length on me before the boost came up...all though the look on his face when put 4 on him was priceless...but that's for another section......

this did cross my mind...but I thought..no way ....the other turbo was bigger...??? could it be?

But the hole might not be in the exact same spot, so check it anyway.

The definition of lag is the couple seconds that the guy you are racing thinks he is going to win!! I had the same thing with a new Z06. I left without even putting it on the converter :)

Even with everything else right on a converter would really wake it up

Post as much info on your data and tune as you can, but running 730's at WOT in 3rd is scary.

And I'll agree with everyone that says the stock or restall converters are lame ( if none then I'll be the first to say it ), all of us who have gone to a killer converter will say we should've done it sooner.
