Hi guys.....I have a simple question here regarding the different years of 2004R pumps. Is there any adverse effect when using a early 150 casting stator with a later 082 pump body as long as you modify the solid regulator valve with flats? The reason I'm asking is because I read here that the 150 stator can ONLY be used with the 149 pump body..... but all of the later stators and pump body are interchangeable..... if they cannot be used together.....what would happen if you tried it? Thanks!! :)

What stator? The stator inside the converter.

There's a stator support that splines into the converter which is bolted to the back half of the pump and passes through the pump rotor when assembled but thats it.

Yep.....that is the one I'm talking about..... can the back half of the pump casting 150(the one with the stator bolted into it) be used with the other half of the pump...casting 082(which consist of the pump gears, rotor and so on). Bruce states that the casting 150 casting pump half can ONLY be used with the casting 149(other half of pump).... I just want to know why? And what happens if you do use say the early #150 casting half combined with the later #082 casting other half......

What happens is transmission failure.

Ok....thanks Bison... could you explain to me why failure happens? As you know... we have been having a noise problem.... and close inspection of the pump....we found we are running a casting #150 back half of pump combined with a casting 082 (gear side of pump), but we did modify our solid regulator valve by grinding a flat on it. When I read Bruce stating the casting 150 can ONLY be used with the 149 pump body...that started making me think.

I never traced out the oil passages. You can separate the halves and follow the oil passages to see where it dead ends

If you properly modified the regulator valve you are good
