Did he tell you how there are hundreds of oil refineries in the country are heating crude oil to the point where if exposed to oxygen it can flash causing a major fire/explosion?

Bottom line, accidents happen. Of course not always of this magnitude.

I hope it's stopped before the relief well has been drilled. If not the oil slick may end up on the whole east coast.

I have a friend who is involved dealing with the situation and he had to go make a statement and his personal view on the subject at the white house, he is currently representing BP on the matter, he said that the top kill was not going to work no matter how much mud or concrete they pour into it, his recommendation was to hire German, Russians and french engineers to get their expertise and deal with the situation, but our damn GOV and BP are so damn stubborn they ignored his suggestion, he also said that the only way they could probably deal with this was to do what the Russians did back in the 70's when they had a similar issue, (use a NUKE to cave in the shaft and seal 4ever) He also mentioned that the situation is 100% worst than what the GOV and BP are telling the public, BP mentioned somewhere around 100,000 gallons per day but its more like 400,000 , He also said that we have another 30 off shore drilling platforms operating that could explode at any time and create the same situation as the current one that we have in the gulf..

How long has your friend been working offshore?

With a bomb, I would be afraid of making a bigger hole that may not be able to be sealed at all. Then you could forget about the gulf and oceans worldwide forever.

There is something like 10,000 psi of pressure pushing this oil out into the gulf. You know how hard it is to hold your hand over an air hose with 100# of pressure, now imagine 10,000psi.......which if you tried to cover up would cut your hand off.

Engineers and deep water experts from all your major oil companies are working together to develop new ways of stopping this disaster. They all want it stopped. So far, all have failed. This just goes to show you how dificult this is to deal with.

If we were drilling on the land this wouldn't be an issue, the leak would have been stopped a long time ago. The reason we are drilling so far and so deep off the coast is because the tree huggers decided that we don't need to drill on US soil..

The only way they will really be able to prevent this from ever happening again is to have to rigs on the same oil deposit that way if they have a fvck up like this again they can relieve the pressure through the other well and cap the bad one. I dont want this to turn political or anything but the big problem imo is not the drilling itself. Its the fact that they have to be so far from shore to be able to drill. Plenty of oil a lot closer to the shoreline that they can tap into. The greenies will cry that they shouldnt be drilling at all. Unfortunately that is not a reasonable option. So they forced them way out thinking they were doing the correct thing . Now you have a real big problem and want to blame big oil for it all. Wrong. They are not the total fault here. I dont agree with the engineers old projection that there was a 60-70% chance of success. What did they base that stat off of? They pulled it out of their asess. Thats it. They probably hoped it worked but was more of a distraction than a solution. There is way to much pressure in there to easily be able to stop it for any useful amount of time. The damn water pressure is about 2200psi itself! Another well needs to be installed to cut the flow so they can cap it. I dont physically see any other option that will have a guaranteed success. Shame on regulations for not requiring 2 wells. Big oil wont use 2 wells on the same location because it costs a lot of $. If they were forced to we wouldnt be in this $hithole of a mess. This was totally down played in the beginning. Fvcking jack ass politicians and their BS games.

During the top kill attempt, BP pumped about 2 million gallons of drilling fluid, which is heavy mud, into the well and it didn't slow it down. Next attempt will be to cut the riser off of the well and attempt to cap it with a siphoning pipe to capture the oil. Obviously plugging the oil isn't going to work until the relief well is dug.

What's laughable is their incompetence to not have a plan to deal with this disaster knowing that there was a real possibility that this could happen and thinking that rediculous idea was going to work.

They are saying 20-30k barrels of oil a day is being dumped into the sea but I would be willing to bet it's double that.

I'm sure thousands of fisherman will never recover from this and it will take years before any of them see monitary damages because those oil companies have deep pockets with high dollar law firms.

I'm sure hundreds of Law firms down south will look to file class action law suits but good luck seeing any punitive damages since appeals can drag out for years if not decades.

Exxon has still not paid in full for their disaster. It had to go all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court and when you look at their profits vs. what they had to pay out it's a joke! As of 2009, Exxon had paid only $383 million of the $507.5 million to those who sued. 12 years of litigation for the fisherman and small buisnessmen.

20 years later some of the original plaintiffs are no longer alive to receive, or continue fighting for, their damages. About 8000 of the original complainents have since died while waiting for their compensation as Exxon fought them in court year after year.

The only plan they had was the installation of the required blow out preventer. It has three redundent "fail safe" shut off's. If operating properly it should have isolated the leak.
I guess up to this point it was never an issue of the BOV failing. I'm pretty sure that the chance was always there, just when one would fail.
