My neighbor has a SHO in sitting in his driveway. Hasn't run in years. They are definately an anomily in the FWD Ford stable. The ones I have seen at NED ran smokin' 16s but then again they had a bunch of decals and numbers in circles on the doors. Does that mean they can do 160 mph? I guess I'm missing something here.

Good comeback. I thought you were done with this thread?

I can tell by your postcount that you run your mouth faster than you think.

, i put into my t-rex calculator, and the vet maybe runs about 112 in the 1/4 mile....so that kinda does show the car may run 112.5ish...so what all is a LS6 vette?

The LS6 is the Z06 engine. Stock Z06's dyno around 360whp. This one dyno'd @ 392 whp. It traps a good deal better than 112.5. I trapped 115, and that was with less hp and a lot less torque than my current setup. I think your calculator need calibrating.

WTF is the point of racing top end in a friggin brick?

It is a common misconception that the Taurus is a brick, but it actually is very aerodynamic, even 15 years after its introduction. Now a Viper, that is a brick (and I assume the GN does not have a stellar cd, but I am ignorant of it's numbers).

well its cool that they are doing these performance mods, but SHOW ME A FULL 1/4 MILE PASS IN THE 12s or something significantly better than the PAST VIDEO-

I will be glad to, as soon as the track opens. There is a much less powered SHO in the 12's (nitrous). I can post a link to that if you like.

get a half fender and act like these cars are BAD ASS

Not seeing where I ever acted like my car was bad ass. I am on a GN site. I know where my car stands. BTW, I put much more than half a fender on that Lightning :D

Get a video of putting the smack down on the vette where you guys actually pull away and beat the crap out of someones car, and that would impress me to earn my respect for these yamaha motored torass's, hanging right next to something means diddly squat to me-

All I would have to do is find a stock Vette or TA. I much prefer racing comparably powered vehicles, but if a butt raping is what you would like to see I will get some of my Mustang vids hosted (5.0 stangs).

So what happens when the timing chains break in one of these engines?

These cars do not have timing chains. They do have timing belts though. If one breaks, well, it breaks. You get a new one and install it and are on your merry way.

We don't have timing chains, we have timing belts.

Instead of a video of a SHO runnin 12s at a drag strip how about a video of a GN running a 1 & 3/4 minute lap on a 1.9 road course? From what I've seen in here all you guys think about is drag racing. In the world of racing drag racing is a comparatively small sport. Europeans think we're nuts in the U.S. for drag racing our cars they think the real test of a car is on a road course.

 :D

I was just wondering what the stats on a stock GN were? Also what are the differences between a t- type, GN and GNX? I dig the cars but havent found a GN around here for less than 10K. But they sound so nice(I wish I could get a crossover pipe:( ).

Good GOD, can you say "useless"?

GN's are at least somewhat classy and LEGENDARY. By the way, I'd have been more than happy to run one of those SHOs (turbo'd, blown, injected, pushed, pulled or NO2'd) from a dig or 50mph roll in my TTA.

If you SHO owners are still monitoring this thread I suggest you hunt down a plain white 1989 T/A with gold emblems that say TURBO on the side and see how you do, if you can find one. And remember, it's just a 3.8 GN inspired engine under that hood. High 12's in the 1/4 mile (with $200 in mods) and 165+ mph capable on the highway...great combo and the transmission held up too.

I sure miss that car....

Remember, this is a Turbo Buick message board....

Almost forgot to mention it's pretty impressive on those twisty road courses too :D

yeah, I guess smoking most everything out there in a family car (or granny car in lil six steve's case) is a waste but we think it's fun :D . Besides, we're not invading your forum, just this post. I think GN's are awesome. I really want one myself. I don't see what the fuss is all about. All of those cars made at least 430hp at the wheels. That in itself is impressive. It's like this- a SHO is about as much of a taurus as a GN is a regular regal. They aren't even in the same category. Just like our cars. We're not saying we're better that ya'll, hell we didn't even put the video here. BUt the whole point of these forums is about cars. And we just have different car's. At least we don't have 85 civics w/6' wings!:D

Actually we found one of those last Oct. on our fall run in San Antonio and Tony (the red SC SHO) smoked it 5 times. We even have video of it on one of our yahoo groups. And the races were from a dig too. The TA owner also had a laptop tuner on it.

 :D

Boy did this thread ugly up since yesterday. OK time for the SHO guys to leave if you cant play nice. We must be doing something right or you woudnt be on our site. :p Oh yea my car is faster than yours. Grow up guys (SHO).

You SHO guys should think about going to the Texas Mile. It's a 1 mile run on a closed runway south near Victoria.

I was going to go last year, but had conflicts (its the same weekend as Buick-Ford Shootout in OKC - last weekend in October)

A "laptop tuner" doesn't really mean much. My Stock GN has a laptop in the passenger seat so I can see what my temps are and what my RPM is and how much boost I'm running over 14 psi (stock gages are non-existant or can't be trusted as far as you can throw them).

It LOOKS like I'm a big time FI tuner, but I'm just want to see what the car is idling at, whether the O2 sensor is still working etc.

If the TTA had a FAST or the fuel map was actually being TUNED by a laptop, a SHO wouldn't stand a chance. Period.

A STOCK Turbo/injector/intercooler TTA will run 114 in the 1/4. $2-3K in bolt on mods (turbo, injectors, intercooler, misc) will run OVER 120 in the 1/4.

You can delete it yourself if you'd like. That way we don't have to look at it anymore (versus if it's locked).

A lot of threads go this way in the winter time. The rush of power the TRs provide is good therapy for us power junkies. It's been so cold and crappy that I haven't driven mine in a while. Makes me - and some others here I suspect - pretty cranky.

I think I'll wipe mine down with a diaper tonight when I get home.

Jim

WHat is the secret with a diaper? Are they good for polishing or is it the SHO guys are so full of Shi* that they need something to contain it in? :D

I certainly did not come here to stir anything up, and I fail to see where any of my posts could be considered flaming or rude on any level. I was simply and factually stating the details about this race and about my vehicle. I believe a nuetral outsider would be noticing more negativity from some of the Buick owners.

I was originally planning on attending, but with the format change and distance from here, I opted out. Even though it is not required, I want a cage before I go this year. From the results, looks like the majority of cars were Corvettes, and it also looks like I would have fared very well speed-wise.

If the TTA had a FAST or the fuel map was actually being TUNED by a laptop, a SHO wouldn't stand a chance. Period.

Those are very nice times, but if you are saying that a SHO would not stand a chance against the above TTA, that is simply not the case. I have no doubt that the red SHO in the vid is capable of very high 100teens now, as he pulled me and I trapped 115 at a lower power level than when I ran him. My power levels now, along with the extra I will get from tuning, should have me very close to 120, and with the extra boost I have coming, I am very confident that I will reach that goal this year. Now, if you were talking strictly about a 1/4 drag race, then yes, that 114 TTA would beat me or the S/C'd cars ( I am assuming with that trap he would be running ver low 12's).
