Just wondering what the average price was for scrapping cats was..

I went to scrap mine yesterday and the place was closed but as I was leaving some dude in a truck said he'd give me 30 for it so I took it.

My uneducated guess was that I was only going to get 40 for it anyways, what do you guys think?

Last month a factory lc2 cat was about $90 up here if you went to the right place

DAMN. ha well does it matter that it was like half full? most of it had blown out..

It's worth a lot less if it's missing part of the catalyst.

oh yeah,i love selling all the cats i change at my shop. now thats easy money. some or most of the junk guys are real shady dudes. gotta watch em for sure.

As with anything you must know what it will bring in the market you are in. You got $30, you were happy, don't worry about it. The guy you sold it to has to make a living so he probably would not have given you much more. I used to buy a bunch of them as a side gig when I lived in H-town. The price of the raw material fluctuates, there are different raw materials in the converters from different manufacturers. Knowing the prices, and what is in them can make or lose you money if you don't know.

Damn!!!! I've got four cats here eating me out of house and home!!!!!!! You can have all four of them for $30!o_O

You see it as half full because you are the seller. The buyer sees it as half empty.....

Around chicago they bring big money. $80 - $200 depending on size. I get alot of trucks with converters cut off .
The biggest problem is the yards that take them are taking them without proper paperwork.

The cat on my wife's SUV has been stolen once, cut off, then a couple of Ford F250's in the neighbourhood. Went out to start it up in the morning and VROOOOM! It was loud. They are bringing in a couple of hundred bucks around here.

If something is filled half way I dont see it as half full or half empty, it just means the container is twice as big as it needs to be...LOL

I have trouble reading your posts because of your avatar.

What type of cat has everything to do with the price. Aftermarket cats are worth like $7 around here . A factory Gn cat about $100-120 other foreign car cats I hear can be worth more. The old 70's trans am pellet style cats they used to give me like $30 because they weren't as desirable. It all depends on what you have
