I bought mine and had the crank break, which broke the block on the way home from purchasing it (about 600 miles from home). I then took it to a shop known for working on turbobuicks for a new engine. I paid more money then I will admit for all new stuff and blew the head gaskets my first time getting on it. The car ran like crap. Half the parts they charged me for weren't on the car. I never got any of my old parts back i.e. heads, turbo, injectors, ECM etc. I then took it to another guy who convinced me I needed a BS3 to get it running right. Thousands later and it still ran like crap. 5 years later and we're still undoing stupid stuff that previous owners did. But she is running pretty good these days :)

I bought one a couple of days ago, went to register and get plates for it. As soon as I was done and in the parkng lot putting the plates I went to start it, there was nothing the igition where my key went out so I had to take my column apart on the spot and start it with a screw driver. Well I guess this will give me some time to clean up the wire mess under my dash from the previous owner.

My dad bought his at night and when he woke up he realized there was rust and alot of dents and faded paint

mine is only a "horror story" to the guy i bought it from..

it sat on a used car lot for 13 years with what the owner thought was a blown up engine- like a broken piston or something.. he wanted it gone, said he "wanted" $5000 but it was only worth half that with a blown engine, so i paid him $2000 on that next Friday afternoon and dragged it home on a tow dolly. i tore into it, and the passenger side head gasket was blown out between the 2 rear cylinders and into the intake valley.. found gaskets and had it running by Sunday afternoon. insured it Monday and took off work that Tuesday to take my new car for a drive.. i stopped in at the dealer i got it from to show him the blown head gasket, figuring he'd get a good laugh over it.. he offered me my money back, and i told him that i'd sell it back to him for the $5k that he himself said it was worth a few days before.. he chased me out of his dealership screaming that i was trying to rip him off and that if i didn't get the hell off his property he was going to call the cops and tell them that i stole the car since he hadn't transferred the title.. i told him that i had the receipt that he gave me on Friday and that he should call the cops.. he then told me to get the hell away from his dealership and never come back... i was worried that he wouldn't transfer the title, but i got it in the mail about 3 weeks later..

Call the cops. Lol. I would have called them for him just to piss him off more.

I bought mine from a friend who unfortunately fell in love with both a woman and drinking. He decided he needed money and oddly discounted the car to me 30% from what he originally wanted. I never argued and actually had agreed to full price. But I knew about the drinking so I paid him half, got the car, then when the title came back to him from the state I paid the other half. I'm not completely stupid. Still have it 12 years later!

finding holes in the trunk where a NOS bottle was. I was really pissed off and when I called the guy, he assured me that he didn't run too much through it and wanted to sell the kit to me. Dousche! When I pulled the motor out, it had minimal wear, which makes me believe he didn't put too much through it. What really angered me was the fact that he removed ALL of the build sheets...why? NATHAN MARTIN...give me my build sheets!

so what are you mad about again? that he didn't destroy the motor with nitrous?
also, not every car had the build sheet hidden in it.. sometimes they just wound up on the floor of the factory and got thrown away.

Ok so before I start. I posted this story a couple weeks after I bought it. And I don't mine telling people about how I got screwed. Maybe admin can make this thread a sticky for newbies before buying.

Ok so half of this story was my fault because due to piss poor research, being an impulsive buyer and not joining this forum before buying oh and trusting someone. So I get a good paying job out of the Navy and got money to blow on my DREAM car a GN. I see this ad on Craigslist....1st problem haha. I call the guy up and he tells me about it. Gets me all hot and bothered about it. Has high mileage but for 25 years old I thought that's to be expected. And I was gonna rebuild the thing anyway. We setup to meet I get my bank loan. And bring my car buddy to come look over the car. We look it over drive it. Pulls hard sounds nice. Got some extras on it that make me have tunnel vision and get even more excited. The thing doesn't have a RPO sticker. (Red flag) but its a vin 7 car. So I pay no mined. Had I done my research and checked the paint code and door jams (flaking paint showing white paint). I would have known it was not a GN. So of course a week after I have the car I send the vin to GM media and get the factory paperwork saying its not a WE2 car. I forget what it said. Basically it was just a Turbo Regal painted and badged. Id been had and I was fuming mad. So I call this a-hole up and I say hey this thing isn't a GN and I got proof. We need to meet up and give me some of my money back or take the car back and give me it all back. He says hes at work (supposedly a cop) and he will call the guy who sold it to him. I say you got till the end of the day or I'm calling my lawyer. Well he never called me back. The check cleared in my account and he changed his number. Would have lost 4k if I went to lawyer even if I won in court. So I said screw it. But everytime I look at and see my loan payment i have to think about getting screwed by a 5' guy from Maryland. But it had a top end rebuild 2 years ago and with alky and slicks can be a solid 11's car. But still chaps my ass.

I ALMOST had a "spoolin hooligan" moment... BTW, I feel for you.:( Even after I was 100% sure my car is a GN, I was thrilled to find the build sheet when replacing the dew sweeps on the doors.

When I first started looking for a GN I too was cruising CL and found what appeared to be a decent '87 GN for $8500 It had 120K, but again, appeared clean. I talked to the seller ( a member on here too) ( BTW a$$hole, if you're reading this, you're a lying cheating scumbag) and he assured me that for the money I won't find a better car. So we set a date & time.

I called up a friend (also a GOOD member here) told him about it, and he said he'd come with and give it a good inspection. So him, a cashiers check, and me headed off to see it.

We get there, and the seller isn't home yet, but his wife is, tell us "he'll be home shortly" and hands us the keys and tells us to pull it out of the garage. The POS idled rough (like it had a .700 lift/300* duration cam) 1st redflag and puffed some blue smoke at startup, 2nd redflag. We pulled it into the driveway and began looking it over real good. First thing my friend did was pop the trunk to read the SPID codes. I was looking down the body lines & placing a refridgerator magnet all over looking for bondo (that's another story too) when my friend pops his head over the trunk & exclaims "Hey Tom!, this isn't a GN!!!" Really?? I said. Then WTF is it? He said it appears to be a Turbo T cloned into a GN. It was a VIN 7 car though.

I continued to check for bondo, and I found what had to be 10 cans used on this chitheap. I couldn't get the magnet to stick on either door OR either rear quarter. Also in the trunk on the driver side was a HUGE glob of fiberglass. It appeared as though 1/3 of the quarterpanel has rusted through, and it was just 'glassed over instead of using metal. About this time the crook seller came home. He was all nicey nice & asked what we thought of this gem. I boldly told him what I thought of his cloned POS. He argued back that we were full of $hit, and this was a GN!!

My friend pointed out the missing WE2 code, along with other missing codes that a GN would have come standard with. Then this D-bag gets all huffy with us, telling us how any idiot can get a Kirbans book and decipher RPO codes. I barked back at this dink, and told him that he's the idiot for thinking he was gonna scam someone who comes prepared. He then told us how he traded his GN for this "GN". I don't believe him for one second.

We started walking to the truck & he had enough balls to ask "So you don't wanna buy it then?" I told him I'd give hime $1500 for the POS, and kept walking.

I commented on the sellers thread wayyy back when he had it for sale on here, and was nicer about it then. But, that's been 3 years ago now, and here's how I really feel.:)

Was driving 2 Georga with the wife. Pulled into a hotel for the nite and heard a noise that sounded like something in the electric fan(was our white t). It was the ac clutch that had gone out, only time it would be sorta quiet was with AC on. Went on line found ac comp drove to advance and picked it up in AM,decided to hit the road and change it only if it left me stranded. Ac still had r 12. Made to GA with the wife looked at that GN...not excatly as described. So left it there and changed the compressor in his gf's yard and hit the road went home with no ac.

Here's my horror story. I saved a we4 from going to the circle track. Car was not molested just beat to hell. 11k later and it still isn't totally finished and it still isn't right. Moral of the story, don't buy one that needs work unless it's a plain turbo regal.

read again, pissed because hey sprayed it and didn't tell me that. Every late 80's and newer GM car I've serviced or owned has around 5 sheets stashed around the car. I doubt they threw that many sheets on the floor, maybe in the 60's or 70's they might have.

I conpletely stripped my car to nothing when I did the frame off. Found one build sheet that resembled a old newspaper left outside all winter. One weird thing though I did find the radio bezel under the back seat lol

There is some many dishonest people. I thought about selling my car as a GN. but I couldnt do it. I have a heart. Can't put people what I went through

did you ask the guy if he had ever run nitrous thru it, or do you just assume that people are going to tell every little thing about a car they are selling?
