Mine is okay but I think its worth changing while I am getting rid of all my oil leaks. I checked Kirban's site and couldn't find it. He has the feed line though.

It is my understanding that the piece you are talking of is a GM-only part. You do have the option of getting a return plate modified for AN fittings/lines from Turbonetics, Limit Engineering, etc., but now you are talking about spending $$$ for a simple part.

There are plenty of Turbo Regal rapists ;) that are parting out these cars. Just check the For Sale forum or the Turbo TRader on GNTTYPE.ORG.
 
Get the braided one from Johns...

I bought one today after I saw it. It looks like it well definitely take a beating. I broke mine completely in two trying to get it back in during my rebuild. I will have it next Wednesday so if you want me to report on the look and feel I can.

How about a report on the install? The one I installed for a local owner was not easy, as there is no swivel at either end. Maybe I was having a bad day?:D
 
Looking at it, I figured as much. I plan on using enough teflon tape to keep it where it ends up when the bolts line up for the turbo. That way it is sealed. Then again, teflon tape might clog the oil pickup if it shreds so I will just use the thread sealant I used on my head bolts.;)

Either way, I will let you guys know.
 
It's easier ofcourse with the turbo removed to install the block end. With the turbo out of the way you can remove the now unneeded brass adapter between the block and line easier as well. Take a good look at the position of the turbo end of the original before you destroy it, removing it from the brass adapter...clock the new braided line 'head piece' in approx the same position with teflon tape on the threads. Slip over the STUDS [you're still not fighting with those 13mm bolts are you?], zip up the nuts and you're done with the line that works great and looks far superior to the oem leaker.

Mine was about 2 hours of intense cursing pain and general suffering.

Had to go out and buy a big a$$ wrench for the block fitting too.

Tore up some hoses etc. getting the original one out.

Lining it up with the turbo was another 1/2 hour fun job. Still had the bolts too.

Gotta use a thick gasket from GM on it or it will leak. Oh yeah that was another 3/4hr. the next weekend.

All in all it's a great part and looks works great. Install is a b!tch!!!

Bought one for the GN too. Looks fine right now sitting in the garage. :D Memories are too fresh from the last install. ;)

Just my .02.

Do it when doing a timing chain or new turbo. :)
 
I bought a braided line, but ended up selling it and going back to the OEM line.

I couldn't see how to get the block end in - isn't the water pump in the way? And even if I did get the block end in, how would I get the line to install to the turbo - it's too short and fat to be very flexible, isn't it?

My feelings are a braided line might be fine with the motor out of the car, but trying to install one with everything in place - nope, not me. I just love the OEM line now...

Ohhhhhhhh.... maybe that is why it looks like it will be so easy.:D :D

I am just putting everything back together and have the turbo sitting in my living room! The only thing in the way would be my water pump but that is just a few bolts away from coming off as there is no water in the block yet.

You can get it in there with the water pump in, but if I remember correctly you have to remove a hose or two (coolent) to get the drain line back in the block. The return line that I did; did not thread all the way into the block, but I used teflon tape, and it sealed up fine.


Once you get it started use the wrench to tighten it till its snug. You must use the studs on the Turbo, it is a tight fit, and it sometimes looked like the braided retuen line "shouldn't be used", but to date it is still on the car, and not leaking.

Its one of those products that would be just a bit better if they gave you another 1/4" - 1/2" of Braided line to work with....but the way it is now you shouldn't have much trouble getting it in.


If you plan to use bolts......good luck.

Threads for the return line are: 8mm X 1.25...The flange on the return line is pretty beafy so I would pick up a few different lengths studs, and use the ones that fit best.

i have a brand new atr braded one, with bolts and gasket. $40 to your door!!

Assuming you do not have a PT70 or larger....the bigger turbos use larger bolts/studs. You wanna talk PITA? :rolleyes:
 
OK Guys,

I forgot to post this. I got the braided line, played with it a little bit to loosen it up and went to install it. Well needless to say it ain't easy if you got ANYTHING in your way. I only had the water pump in the way and it was kinda difficult but once I got it in, I realized that the ends do swivel. Both of them.

I wrapped teflon tape around the ends before installing them and tightened it up a good bit. Bolted it up to the turbo after reclocking it :mad: and putting some ultra copper on the gasket. No leaks and it sure looks good down there.;)
