Wounded my 109 at the track when my fuel pump starting having issues, so I'm current working on a budget 4.1(291) to put in while I finish my 4.1(044) stroker project.

Bought some new tools the other day.

I found some significant differences between the 291 and 044 4.1 blocks. The 044 looks to be extremely stronger in the deck and oil pan rail areas.

I know some of you are going to question the decision on building the budget 4.1 instead of just finishing the stroker, and here's the reason.

I bought a freshly rebuilt 291 4.1 complete motor from a guy for $250 carb to pan. It already was bored .040 with the Speed Pro hypers that people have been using. I'm use the standard crank from the 36,000 mile 044 block. The 291 block had not only been bored, but also line honed, and all of the machine work seems to check out so far. I will only have about $800 in this motor after buying the used cam, bearings, gaskets, polishing the crank, and balancing the rotating assembly.

My stroker motor still needs close to $3500 in parts and machining to finish it. Just can't spend that kind of cash right now.
Here is the parts stash so far. Thanks to Dave Husek for the crank and rods and another board member for the Champion Irons.

Sorry guys, just realized this was the MAGNA forum. Didn't mean to invade!

this thread is about winter projects
any post is welcomed that might motivate those that get too used to the couch when the weather just sucks like it has lately

i hear ya mark , its those posts of guys in their shorts with palm trees in the back round that i feel bad for ... they have to brave those harsh mid 60 degree winter days to work on their rides ..

btw its been snowing for over an hour here so i didnt make it out to the monthly meet , now i have to sit another month for the next one ....hopefully the salts will clear off the roads by then but i wont bet on it

I was also hoping to make it over to NE Philly, but decided that I did not need yet another messy/slippery/dangerous commute
Here's hoping for a nice day in March

dont worry mark those are track only use ,
i dont think theres a tire with enough tread for the buick that would work with what wehave been getting

i need some old studded snows
