beware of this ebay auction

I, too had e-mailed the high bidder. Maybe we've done our "good deed for the day". Now, I just hope I don't get sued for it  ;) .

This car would probably be fine but it's always gonna be a problem at resale time.

I'm sure the bidder will be referencing this thread again in days to come. If you are still looking for a GN when you get this mess straightened out, there are always quality cars for sale in the "Cars for Sale" section of this board and reputable, knowledgable people to buy them from.

Of course they did :) (I be kinda dum, but gee...;))

I don't mean the air dam per se, I mean the '84 air dams ARE MADE DIFFERENT or FROM A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT MATERIAL (something about the rolled edge, I forget exactly)...anyway, could be it was also an '85 thing...

Don McMullin, you out there?? :D

Fish market smell??

Anyone notice the name combo on her e addy??

richandamber... wonder where "Rich" is???

I looked at their feedback. The last item that they sold is an A/C accumulator for an 85 GN. Doesn't necessarily mean anything, just interesting is all.

Detailed Vehicle History Definitions:

* Accident
CARFAX receives information on accidents in most states when an official police report is filed. The level of detail in the accident record varies by state depending on the state's accident report requirements. CARFAX recommends you obtain a vehicle inspection from your dealer or an independent mechanic for any car involved in an accident.
* Exceeds Mechanical Limits
A vehicle with a 5-digit odometer cannot accurately track mileage after 99,999 miles because the odometer rolls over. This title is the result of a seller certifying under the Truth-in-Mileage Act, that the odometer reading EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS of the odometer.
* New Owner Reported
When a vehicle is sold to a new owner, the Title must be transferred to the new owner(s) at a Department of Motor Vehicles.

the mileage report would certainly validate the reason for the worn out, ripped up seats. But then again. Since it's not really a GN, then those seats could be from anywhere. ;)

Been around the block more than J-lo!

I think I counted 8 title issues, and that doesn't include the one to the current owner, or anyone before 1991!!

This thing belongs in the Fulton fish market!!!:D

Considering the accuracy of the setup and everything I am 99% sure this car is a Tag Job. Very likely the real car was totaled, vin plates then swapped to this one, and this car could very well be stolen...

I would email this to the high bidder, however could I get in trouble for that????

EDIT: I emailed him anyway, I dont care In good concience I cant let this happen...

Originally a stolen '84/'85 TR?

I agree...

I'm sure the authorities in that state would be VERY INTERESTED in that car......

"This is a nice clean Grand National with only 68,378 actual miles......."

Yeah Right......

I've saved their e-bay auction ID and such into my "favorates"......
......gonna keep an eye out for if/when this "GN?" comes up for auction again!

This car has some major legal "issues"!

Wouldn't it be great if the car turned out to be stolen from a board member and he is able to get it back

very interesting!

Just went thru the Carfax info.. On 5/95, the car is in Alexandria VA, [A suburb of DC] . It has 139,000 shown. The next "stop" is Vienna, VA, and the car is registered in July, 95 as having 40,927 miles on it..Given it's close proximity to the "crime free" zone called the "district", you don't suppose it was run thru a chop shop?? Nah!!, there's not that kind of illegal activity there!!! The mayor is too busy getting out of jail for drug posession, to run a chop shop!!
Then the trip thru NC begins in Feb,96. The car has now only had 959 miles put on it since it's "change"...maybe it's been "cooling off" in some dudes basement??

Bottom line is, if the hi bidder goes thru w/ the purchase, he gets what's coming to him..

Rich and Amber have been noticeably absent lately.. wonder why??

I agree the car is a fake, but I think can explain the mileage issues as the same things have happened with my cars...

When we go through emissions testing up here the government sells the mileage information to Carfax. Well the stupid idiots entering the mileage at the emission station make all the errors. This error is quite common:

Date: Mileage:
02/08/1991 92,985
12/16/1994 135,000
04/13/1995 138,000
05/24/1995 139,002
07/15/1995 40,927
02/12/1996 41,886

All that happened here is the last two mileage reports have dropped the first digit, An easy mistake when the first digit does't even appear on our odometers.

I found the exact same issue when I ran a Carfax on my GN and T-type. My 7000 mile TTA shows 107000 miles on Carfax because the emission station entered it wrong.

The bottom line here is that you cannot rely on Carfax mileage information at all. I wonder how long its going to be before they find themselves in a legal situation with their incorrect data collected without the owners knowledge or verification.

I also got an e-mail from the buyers, whom are NOT going to go through with the auction.

They also mentioned that the auction was ended early by eBay due to a violation of one or more of their listing guidelines. :D

They're also still looking for a '86-'87 GN in the $5k price range, if anyone can help them out. :)

The thing with that was the car was being sold as a 68k mile car... which would go along logically with the numerical progression there....

Either way that bomb has been averted.. hopefully!

I got an e-mail response from Amber. She asked me not to post it here. I will respect her wishes for now. I did however encourage her to post the same info here and I hope she will do so. Suffice to say, if what she says is true, she got a "crash course" in car identification over the last week or so and now knows that she got burned when she bought the car on eBay six months ago. She is examining her options in that regard.

My advice to her was(exerpt from my e-mail response to her):

Someone, somewhere is/was going to get left "holding the bag" on this car. I'm sorry it had to be you. You seem to be an honest person who ended up in a bad situation. If you can't get your money back from the seller who sold it to you, you could sell it on eBay with all that you know about it now included. It is one of the best "clones" I've ever seen. Or sell it locally, so as not to be under such public scrutiny (again, divulging what you know about it). Or, part the car out. Depending on what you gave for it, it may be worth as much or more that way. Whichever way you decide to go, I wish you the best of luck.

Hopefully, she'll post here herself soon.

Unbelievable. So, now she comes clean.... maybe..... So, she got taken when she bought the car and now decides since she got screwed over it would be OK to screw over someone else.

appreciate all of your kind comments about me and my integrity on the web here, but I am not an expert on cars or a mechanic. When I bought this car, I did my homework and consulted with the professionals the supposedly built it "GM". The cars title from the last owner and mine say it is a 86 Buick Regal GN. 2 dealers confirmed that it is a genuine, all stock GN. I cannot advertise the car as an 85 when the title and history are documented as an 86. I put in a picture of the engine in order to show buyers the contents. I have only done to it what I said I have in my ad. I bought the car in the spring did some minor stuff, then found an 87 that was too beautiful to pass up, so I am selling this one for barely more then I paid.
=) Amber

So, this was all BS too. I would be curious to see about those 2 dealers she checked the car out with on a car she bought on ebay.....

And she still expects to sell it for "barely more then I paid"

Guess thats the way of the world. I got screwed, so I better screw the next guy. Good luck with that "verified 69,000 mile all-stock GN"
