hey guys the brakes finally work great but i just got towed home with what sounds like a cam problem.dont have a clue but im probably going ahead with a full rebuild and was wondering if anyone knew a shop? i might of asked this question before but now its critical. thanks guys.

Hmmm.... Need more info/specifics. Any malfunction codes?

I can almost guarantee you that you don't need a compete rebuild. Unless of course, you have a fat wad of cash that's burning a hole in your pocket.....;)

thats the prob about 9G in the pocket. the way i figure if i need to do any engine work might as well pull it get the rebuild kit from postons or something with the forged pistons get the gn110 cam and champion heads all at once.

I also just saw your post in the general section as well. What exactly happened? Noises? Did it just die? Any pieces on the ground? Having just changed out all my rod bearings the other day with the motor in the car, a LOT can be done without pulling and rebuilding the motor if it hasn't self destructed. I'm very interested in hearing what happened and why you say it's a cam problem. Unless the cam actually snapped in half (very unlikely), the car should still run (with wiped lobes as that's probably the only other thing that could go wrong with the cam). If your rockers aren't moving when cranking it over, that sounds like a broken chain or more likely the plastic sprockets on the gears.

PLEASE, more details... :)

about 9G in the pocket.

I don't know if you guys heard him correctly but, he did say he had 9 geeeees to spend. I think with nine grand in the pocket any noise would be enough reason to pick up the latest hot rod parts. Stage motor, huge turbo, lumpy cam, see through exhaust, and the list goes on and on........

I say spend them geees, and be Chris Mile wit da big smile.:D

Of course you could buy all the wrong stuff too.......Yah, but that will never happen.;)

my intention were to pull the engine around christmans but this might speed it up ill tell you all what exactly happened. about a week ago l was hearing a wierd noise around 1500-1000rpm coming down sounded like my lifters or something and i didnt pay great deal of attention to it. well wednesday night me and a friend were going to pearl on h-3 i was between the two tunnels probably about 2000 rpm or so just cruisin up the hill and in a bang i heard what sounded like backfiring and the engine i thought seized, and the most horrific smell ever smelt like burnt plastic or something i dont know how to describe that smell unless your a flyer like me, it smelt just like avionics smokin up so i for sure thought something was on fire.but when i checked there wasnt. so after all of that i started with the basics vacuum lines, spark plugs, fuses, ecm, error codes intake, and looked around no spilt fluid. so then i tried to roll it over and it was turning great but no ignition. tried it again then it started ran a little then it made a sound like the rockers i was talking about earlier except 10 times louder. then i called the wrecker. after 2 days of thought ive narrowed it down to a few things: cam(highly unlikely now that i think of it),timing chain, timing gear?(dont remember the name),or maybe some type of bearings. that is the best i could do for a description. however i still have the fire in my pocket and im thinking of rebuilding it with like the perfomance rebuild kit from postons with the forged pistons possibly stroking it out 30 over gn110t cam, champion gn1 heads, and maybe a new block to start it out right, you know the goods. so theres the skinny on things.

I vote for timing chain (aka stupid plastic gears)

or maybe oil pump/shaft?... nah...I'll stick with the first guess...

chris,

how many miles are on the motor?

125,000 on the button so i think thats it. or maybe the oil pump the light did come on but, that was after the car shut down.

Might have been the timming chain gear letting go..........If it did it might cause what happened to you....If you know it has never been changed before.....if it did go you probably could do with the engine rebuild.....If the timing chain broke at a reasonable RPM the valves might have hit the piston's....and bent the pushrods...when you started it up again and you heard real loud noise might have been it.....you could tear in to the engine while it is still on the car...start with the intake and the timing cover see if the timing gear went south and if you bent pushrods. If this is the case it's time for a overhaul.
Bummer dude
:(
