How do I play a DVD on my computer??

How do I play a DVD on my computer??? I tried to download free downloads and the players dont see that there is a DVD in either the E or D drives? Can someone who is more computer literate give me a step by step of what the heck I need to do? Thanks for your help!!!! -----Jeremy

On my computer I pop it in and a screen comes up. Then I press play..How old is your computer? Mine plays through windows media player.

Go to windows update and try to update your media player. It should work fine with that. If it is a recorded DVD, ie home movie etc... try this VLC player! It plays anything!
