Here's the magnet from the pan. How much metal shavings is too much?

The transmission was rebuilt 2-3 years ago. The Fluid is a good bright red.

I think I'm having TCC problems. After the car is warmed up, it shifts into second gear for about 1 second, then straight to third, and when it shifts into fourth, it hits HARD. When my transmission on my truck went out, the pan was layered in metal . . . this is the cleanest I've ever seen a transmission pan . . . but just how much is too much?

you should have seen my stock tranny when it went out......i lost virtually all gears AND reverse...and when i dropped the pan to drain the fluid...it wasn't red anymore...it was black and the whole bottom of the pan was black clutch material...the tranny fluid was actually clutch material going through it! coolest thing I have ever seen...that's what a BAD tranny looks like! my rebuilder (Vince Janis) said it was the worst he had ever seen at the time...haha

Yeah, the transmission in my truck went out 2 years ago (180,000 miles on the tranny at the time). It was the same . . . not only could you not see the magnet because the metal shavings was so thick, but the pan itself collected a layer of metal.

The fluid in this transmission is clean as a whistle.

Looks good just a few shavings, when mine went i pulled the pan off and it was covered in a black jelly like substance which was burnt clutch material mixed with trans fluid, you dont want to know what was on the pan when the forward drum blew apart

Who needs 8,

Is the stuff on the magnet all soft particles with no gritty or chunky stuff?

Looks like it is doing its job, but you still have other problems. Fix it now before you really blow it.

It's all VERY soft. So soft that yesterday I picked it up after the fluid had dried (or been absorbed by the paper towel) and all that "fuzz" was very liquid like.

Tonight I'm going to check the TCC solenoid and then we'll see.

Change fluid filters often if tranny sees hard use. What you have there is most likely normal wear.
