Looking for some reliable ways to remove the waste spark and find something better?? Hotter spark and more reliable? Any thoughts would be nice, I have been following some threads but looking for ideas..What is available for ignition upgrades on the GN's?? Thanks for any help!! Ryan

Msd makes a direct interlink between the module and the coil so you can use a dis box, but I dont see any aftermarket coils?? Something with higher voltage?!? Still wastespark, but just increase in coil output would be a major plus to be able to widen the plug gap some.....

Accel #140016 is supposed to be a higher volt output aftermarket coil. I don't know the validity to that, but Summit sells them for like $91.

Thanks for the input, I have been waiting fot the RJC megacoil but am thinking that that may not be coming? Said expected around february 2007 but still not listed as available on the web page, I think that more coil voltage would be a huge bonus on these cars, Im holding off on this RJC deal but have a bad coil currently and am tired of replacing this stuff...

I'm pleased with the Accel. 23 psi with alky and no backfires or kr, however, I'd like to see RJC's megacoil and some real world results before buying one.

me too. we ran into some problems with the system and had to put a hold on it until we could get it figured out. Had some good discussions with the big guys at SEMA this year and hopefully we will be able to overcome the problems we have.

We will keep you informed of any progress we have.

Thanks for chiming in!!! put me down for the first production part you make!!! Ill even prepay! You have got a good thing going there and im certain there will be big benafits to your system once its completed and ironed out!!

Hold on until probably early next year, Bob Bailey has a working prototype that will most likely be a plug and play and cure the stock coil/module blues.

No stock coil(65,000mi) blues here! But looking forward to some free HP.

Scott,
With your aftermarket ecu, you can drop a distributor in. We have the plug and play kit for that.

I said this a few times and I stand by it. There is NO gain by getting rid of wastespark, there is no loss from reverse firing plugs. It is a spark that lights a fire. If you turn a match upside down it still light a fire. The gains are in the coils or the system. Longer, hotter spark with bigger plug gaps WILL improve power. When Buick did the V6 Indy car program and had an unlimited budget for ignition system design. If they could have gained even the smallest amount of power by redesigning the system I am quite sure they would have eliminated the waste spark and reverse firing plugs but they did not see the need, they instead made the spark longer and hotter

I'm with you, Mike. I burn pure alcohol, which is well known for being a be-atch for firing and I've been using wastespark since the beginning and don't see any need to change. If you're mis-firing it's not because of the type of system. It's the components or how they're setup. On top of the alcohol, I'm also running a long duration cam with no ill effects from the wastespark system. I don't get it?

Im looking to widen the spark plug gap..thats what I want to do, and the waste spark does not give me that option..The drivability is just plain better with a wider gap..but not enough energy to do that..

Kenne Bell Boost-A-Spark

I got one of those but have yet to install or test it. Seems like it should take care of upping the voltage to the coils. It even has a GN as one of the examples in the instructions.

Wastespark has nothing to do with that problem, if the stock system had more spark energy you could open the gap more even thoguh it is still wastespark

I understand that....The question is what method is there of doing so? the only aftermarket coil I have seen is accell, with no documented output difference-they say its high output but dont state how much? I have called them directly and got no good answers...who is to say its any better, or a reliable part for that matter, IMO accell is pretty overated..

I know how most people feel about the Electromotive system, but if you're looking for top of the line spark energy from a wastespark system, nothing beats it. I believe they hold most of the patents for wastespark technology found on everyday production cars.

I know big gaps helps driveability, but big gaps under high cylinder pressures just serves to break down your ignition components quicker.

Bruce did some testing with his LS-1 coils a few years ago.

I'd run it for, hmm, 2-3 years.
Never had an ignition related problem.

In one series of tests I was able to completely remove the side electrode, and still run 18 PSI of boost.

Thanx Cal. I'm still saving the $$$ to do the swap, but I find it hard to complain about its current performance;)
See you in PHX.
