These animals need to feel the wrath of the American Military IMO. Or, start hiring armed security to accompany them on board. What a bounch of F-en animals!

I agree too! Arm the big boats with bigger guns. When they come up on those little boats with AK's and a few crew members start firing Auto .50 Cals at them they will turn around real quick:eek:

i think i am going to go to somalia and start my own pirate ring....i think i could do much better then these guys are doing. LOL. I mean who trys to hijack a big boat with a little boat and then after realizing it is not going to work they stay around. I think that destroyer should have a little target practice :D

They were showing weapons training at the Merchant Marine Academy on Cape Cod the other day. They will be armed for sure. What they need is to be able to blast a column of water from the waterline of the ship to swamp those little boats when they pull up. The sailors could just throw some chum down and watch the sharks take care of the rest.

I was thinking about the whole Somali pirate thing the other day and the reason they exist is that no one has yet opened up on them with a .50 Cal, yet.

Not once.

It would take 1000 rounds max, doled out in short, concentrated bursts, and the whole Somali Pirate thing would be over.

This needs to happen soon before they get hollywood agents and Pirates become the new rock stars of third world.

When bloody pirates start showing back on shore missing limbs it will send a message that it isn't cool.

Couldn't agree more...

Glad to see this thread because I was going to start one on this very subject. I know from reading various posts many of you first are a lot younger than me and have military experience. I put my time in 1967-1970 and was one of the lucky ones to survive a tour in Vietnam without any injuries or head issues. I did miss my future wifes high school graduation.

Here is what I can't fathom on what has now become a lucertive business for pirates in the 21st century.

For those that may not be aware of it here are the numbers just from this January 66 attacks, they are still holding 14 ships, 260 crew members. Most ransoms collected run from one millon to as much as three million paid by various countries.

This year alone the take exceeds 50 million dollars in less than 4 months time. This alone tells you one thing. It has become the main source of income for that group of people that have thrown down their fishing gear for this new life style.

The last time pirates took Americans was back in 1804 (not a misprint). I can't find my notes but something like 20,000 ships a year pass thru that area.

Granted this is a wide body of water. The country that harbors these pirates is lawless.

The nations it affects is many. I can't believe this has been able to go on virtually unchecked. Each ransom paid the smart pirates are I am sure investing some of there ill gains in faster ships, better fire power.

Every year I believe our Navy goes on training exercises. Not being a Navy person I assume they go off and shoot blanks or shoot at fake targets. This seems like a no brainer why not take take the next training exercise over in that part of the world?

The PR would be terrific since it would curb the problem. Also would give US instant results unlike Vietnam and the current wars....that drag on and on and on and drain the economy downward. Plus this type of situation would basically be pretty safe for our forces.

Better yet I am sure Russia still has a navy and I know England does they could all go there alternate so each gets the glory. Heck against the ships we have and the fire power. The planes and helicopters they could launch I can't see it lasting more than 30 days tops.

The world economy is enough dire straits without forking over 50 million dollars in a time span of less than 4 months.

I think on this post I made I will probably get 100% agreement on!

While our ideas may vary, I think the solution is dead on as to what needs to be done.

Um....Dennis, I don't argue with you that this needs to be resolved but if I remember we kind did this under the idiot previously know as our president 10 years ago and it didn't go well. Just imagine it under current idiot and imagine what would happen. Talk about a screw up.

I recall it to some degree about involvement however, being this is over water I think the outcome would be quicker and more exacting on the persons involved.

The downside is, if this is left "unchecked" the situation can only esculate, as more and more see it as a profitable business with little downside to it.

Frankly I see it as a win win situation with very little loss of life, compared to most of our other involvements from Vietnam forward....

India took out one of the "mother" ships a while ago. More of that needs to be done.

this is goin on way to long .. kill em all.. this is absurd .. give the pirates NOTHING but lead poisoning:mad:

Real punishment..

When attacked, the ship defense teams shoot only to sink the smaller boats. They then release several 1000 gallons of pig blood into the water.
Being most of these a$$holes are "mooslims", they'd really be in a fix...
They are now "contaminated", so allah won't let them cozy up to the 72 virgins. The sharks won't notice the contamination, and go about thier work as apex predators.

These idiot pirates are like Heroes back in Somalia, some of their most eligible bachelors no less. They've got some balls you must admit. We need to have a few armed guards armed with nothing more than SAWS, that's plenty enough firepower to do them and their stupid little boats in with. We need to grow some balls and start shooting first in those dangerous waters and asking questions later. Start killing a bunch of them and they will think twice before raiding anything. Their country is so damn poor they are willing to try anything to get ahead. There country offers nothing for them, they have nothing to look forward to............just poverty and crooked a$$ public officials. We need to send Dr Phil over there to figure out how to straighten themselves up and leave the boats alone. This way we get rid of him as well!

I think I heard that per international shipping laws Merchant Sailors aren't allowed to be armed or carry weapons. Has anyone else heard this?

Even so, why not just line the outside of the ship with razor-wire? Then when they get stuck just leave their corpses there to discourage the next group that comes along.

50 million in 4 months, does anyone know what has been paid previous to that, now what do you think that they are going to do with all this money, feed the people, I do not think so, they will be buying bigger and better arms
and boats, ships if you were in the Navy, more boats+more arms=, well you get the message, somebody has to stop these thugs and why is it that all I hear is that it seems to fall on our shoulders to try and stop this, are we the only country that wants this to end, GB, Germany, Japan, etc,. they all need to take a stand, not just the US.

to answer above questions:

first shippers can't arm the ships themselves as it would affect insurance rates, plus they may have problems being able to dock in certain ports being they are armed.

Really if you think about it they should not have to be armed, most of the big nations have navys this would provide something productive for them to do.

The figures for 2008 paid was 150 MILLION DOLLARS IN RANSOM MONEY
Thinking beyond that at some point ransom monies is an expense and we all no what additional expenses do to a product, it raises the cost.

So, if left unchecked, this can turn into a real nite mare for countries besides the US.
