Thanks again Geoff!! I didnt realize that Redline sells the RMI stuff. Ill probably pick it up when I return the thermostats.

Thanks to everybody for their advice too!!

While I was changing my thermostat, I found out that it indeed was stuck at about 1/4 to 3/8 open and I also found that my radiator cap wasn't quite up to par either. So I have new parts to go in them but, the thermostat housing caused a slight delay (I mutilated it to get it out :D ) as I ended up needing another one. I found one at a local Carquest for $9 :D so I just gotta go install everything now.

Thanks again!!,

All coolants do that stuff buildup on the tank. That means that you are NOT changing it enough..

our 04' GP does not have dexcool in it

is 60,000 miles soon enough for you buddy???? GM recommends 150K on that dexcool crap

coolant additive that creates bubbles

you guys with coolant corrosion concerns should go to the no-rosion website. it is very informative!

60k miles it TOO long for any coolant.. its common sense, dude. You wait that long you will have deposits.. Sorry but true.

don.t use dexcool it eats gaskets and heatercores. just look at all of the new gm vehicles eating the intake gaskets, and the 95 and up blazer/jimmy with all the heater cores blowing.

According to the TSB I saw, it was due to the coolant being formulated wrong. The one recall was to replace the headgasket on one Saturn model, and then refill with Dexcool. IMO, the heater core issue was a manufacturing oops. Since the replacements are living a longer time.

exactly Bruce. Dexcool is gettin a bum rap.. It due to letting the coolant get low and partiatially overheating the engine OR corrosion already in the syatem OR not properly flushing the system of the green before puttin the red. Like I said i have been using dexcool in my everyday drivers for many years with NOT ONE coolant failer..

and last week in the new GM dealers showroom the cars sure had red coolant in them,..

these are new cars, 60K miles isnt that long for coolant..2 out of 2 cars we have with dexcool have had problems...the '00 GP had 39K miles when we had to replace intake manifold gaskets and flush the whole cooling system.
i call this coolant failure...**** dexcool

we have another non GM vehicle that has 70,000..coolant looked brand new

i know there will be some deposit...but this goes beyond that
you cannot flush this out

why is in intake gasket a coolant problem? Are you aware that GM has had this same problem on many of their v6-s for many years. Before Dexcool ..
WEll my 126k miles 3300 v6 has its original intake gaskets and dexcool..
as did my 95 Neon with 100k miles, a 65 Elcamino with 15 years worth of dexcool.. my list goes on and on.. The main thing is that I changed the coolant every 30k miles..
