How does the 67mm TE45a 3/2 stand up against the newer turbos? The top end freight train pulling ability of this turbo is what I like.

te-45=63mm
te-45a=66mm

The 67s out now have them beat but thats on paper. Combo and tune is the real tester. But, If you dont have a tight budget, get a Q-trim 67 and go for it!

No, the new wheels would imply that new technology is being introduced making the older wheels inferior. All the tests are proving this correctly so a TE45a vs a 62/65 would make the 62/65 the winner in both power and spool.

I'd get a TE45a used but not buy one new considering the above.

I've yet to see the new turbos beat a TE45A in the real word. I'm sure it's happened from reading all the stuff here on TB but it appears to be in the upper boost ranges like way past 20 PSI. Hard to beat a TE45A at high boost.

The GTQ version will run 140mph with the right combo

I have two turbo that would kill a TE45A @ high boost ... but only 1 motor that can handel it :)

Would that be with the smaller 62 compressor wheels or larger 67 or 68? My comment above was referring to people with 62/62 or 62/65 beating a TE45A. I'm assuming a physically larger turbo should be faster but sometimes an oldy is still a goody. :D

I have a stock 6768 billet turbo on a stock lc2 went 10.90's
I have a built lc2 with a 70GTQ DBB in a TTA ?

What else u wanna know ?

So a 10.97 with a 1.66 60 ft with the 6768 means you were moving on the top end too- I'll guess 124mph? Front mount? Alky? I'm running race gas and a CAS V4.

The TE45A is proven beast! I'm sticking with it.
Ive seen TA61's go faster than 10.9's on a stock LC2 so i dont think that its that much of a feat with the 6768.

Well i think 10.972 is good for an engine that was hurt to begin with an lifted the head @ the 1k ft mark. This combo would have gone 10.60's easy. The converter needs to be tightend up the car wouldnt build boost at the line then blew through 2nd gear. 6.98 @ 100.43 1/8 and 10.972 @ only 119 because of the lifted head .. Car had alky /race gas and a frontmount. 3,730lb .... Im in the process of putting a small roller cam in the car now with a set of aluminum heads

I don't know about killing a 45A. I've run 104 in the eighth with a 45A with very little timing and 26 PSI with a worn out tappet cam. 45a is a proven turbo to say the least..sure there are new turbos out there with new technology but, If I want a proven solid 10.50 turbo I know what to bolt on. Beamer is running better times than you posted with a te-54 that should be in the scrap pile by todays standards. Carry on with the Billet wheel turbo cheerleading...

I went 114mph in the eighth with the t-netics version (66 S) of the TE45a GTQ @26psi and 21-22*timing. Car was over 3600lbs. I was not compressor limited either. Charge air temps were 10-12 over ambient. Backpressure is the limiting factor.

My old 45a was a P trim..not capable of the numbers you posted. On a side note.. Im running the Turbonetics 70 F1 {S} it has been an impressive turbo thus Far.

To follow up...

My little old PT-54 went 10.81 with severe traction problems and 25 1/2 Lbs of boost. Once I get back out there with my recently installed HR bar, and true HD wastegate, I looking for some 40's. And I am not talking beers either. That will be afterwards used to chase the Jim Beam !

It was said earlier. It is all in the tune. You can have the baddest to the bone parts. If they do not work together with proper ability to fine tune it for optimal running, then you are wasting time, money and most of all... POWER ! ! !

My 10 sec pass was a bone stock 109 ..2nd pass wit that turbo .But I'm sure someones uncles brother has been faster with less

Ditto on the TE45A being a proven beast. I would love to get my hands on one for a good price. I can see the 9s around the corner with some more injectors...

But for now, I will make this 54 walk the walk...

So just to be clear...You have proven nothing, you have not gone faster than a 45a has gone, you did not try a turbo change in the same car to see which was faster on the same car, and you hurt your car getting the results you did get so it hasn't been repeated even 1 time??

Ever heard of the scientific method?

And you are talking to someone else about someones uncles brother???
